You may be interested to know that our Nation’s Capitol goes through an extensive process to select the National Christmas tree and this year’s has already been selected. This year, an 88-foot Englemann spruce was selected out of a panel of 40 candidate trees from Collville National Forest in Washington state. The selection process included judging the trees on height, crown structure and feasibility of getting the beautiful tree from its forest site to the Capitol lawn where it will be placed in November (in a 5-foot deep pit).
Before it makes its way east, our National Christmas tree will visit 14 towns on a 100-foot trailer. It’s going to be quite the celebrity!
